Safe Harbor Equine & Livestock Sanctuary (SHELS) is a middle-Tennessee based, volunteer-staffed, animal rescue organization that serves at-risk youth as well as equine and livestock animals from neglect and abuse backgrounds. Currently, SHELS has more than two dozen foster farms throughout middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky, with primary operations in Sumner County. The organization is now a GFAS Accredited Sanctuary, is registered with A Home for Every Horse, and has been recognized by the ASPCA as the national model for equine fostering. Executive Committee members are DART Credentialed Responders certified by FEMA to assist in times of disaster. Safe Harbor Equine & Livestock Sanctuary is 100% funded by private donations.
