MFMN was established as a non-profit 501(c)3 animal welfare organization in 2011 to work with law enforcement and concerned citizens to reduce the suffering of neglected, abandoned and abused horses in central Missouri. MFMN does not discriminate based on age, breed, health or ride-ability of the horses that it shelters, but rather, helps all to live a good life, or sometimes pass away with dignity. Since 2011 the Sanctuary has taken in 378 horses and had 205 adoptions. MFMN has minimal administrative costs and is a 100% volunteer organization, with a network of foster homes in the local area. Donations are used to provide medical care, nutritional support, and farrier care for all horses, and training for horses that are able to be adopted for riding by an approved home.
