Primate SAG Questionnaire - Great Apes

Step 1 of 2

  • Right now this is our outdoor space recommendation: Minimum of 5,000 sq. ft. (464.5 sq. m) up to 5 great apes, with an additional 1000 sq. ft. (updated) for each additional individual. Minimum vertical dimension of 25 ft. (6 m)/ Electric fencing 12 ft./ Solid barriers 17 ft.

  • Right now this is our indoor space recommendation: One room with a minimum dimension of 400 sq. ft. (update) per compatible pair, with an additional 200 sq. ft. (update) per additional animal. A minimum vertical height of 15 ft. (4.6 m) is recommended, with furniture and/or catwalks that allow use of vertical space.

  • Right now this is our Shift Yard recommendation: Shift yards for apes should have a minimum of 200 sq. ft. (18.6m) per compatible pair, with an additional 50 sq. ft. (4.6 sq. m) per additional animal. The minimum vertical dimension of 15 ft. (4.6 m). Shift yards are roofed or have a mesh top due to the small size of the enclosure and jump distance of the great apes. (Shift yards are intended for use less than the majority of the time and their use should be reserved for temporary separation, for example cleaning, medical procedures, introductions, etc.)
