Animal Caretaker
Applications are now being accepted for the position of Animal Caretaker. Applicants should possess a combination of experience and education with an emphasis on non-native wildlife. This position involves substantial animal husbandry responsibilities, limited basic medical work, administrative duties (record keeping and telephone work), and field work involving rescues, releases and transportation of animals. Day-to-day responsibilities include feeding, cleaning enclosures, monitoring behavior and enrichment activities. Animal Caretakers also mentor and supervise interns. This position involves substantial physical labor (must be able to lift 50 pounds) in all types of outdoor conditions. Rabies pre-exposure vaccinations are required. Good driving record and ability to drive manual transmission vehicles also necessary.
Desired candidates are mature individuals with the ability to handle physically and emotionally stressful situations, a demanding work load and long hours, and work independently or as a team. Applicants should possess a strong personal work ethic and a high level of integrity.
Established in 1977, Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation receives over 7,000 wild animals per year for rehabilitation and release as well as providing permanent sanctuary for over 600 resident non-releasable indigenous wildlife, exotic wildlife (large mammals, primates, reptiles and birds) and farm animals. Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation is located on 187 acres in beautiful Texas Hill Country, near Austin and San Antonio.
Successful completion of an animal caretaking apprenticeship at Wildlife Rescue or comparable two-year sanctuary experience is required. A minimum one-year commitment to this position is expected.

Hospital Coordinator

Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation in Kendalia, TX seeks a Hospital Coordinator. The Hospital Coordinator is a member of the management team and is responsible for coordinating the animal care needs of a wide variety of native wildlife. He/She is expected to coordinate all animal care protocols, movements and projects determined by the Veterinarian. He/She will possess excellent organizational and time-management skills and the ability to work long hours in all types of outdoor conditions and handle a demanding work load. Rabies pre-exposure vaccinations are required.
